Vodafone launched 4G in the city on Monday, and the latest high speed service will be extended to other metro cities Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru also in a month's time.

"We will increase the intensity of the 4G rollout to cover important metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Testing of 4G services in these locations has already commenced successfully and we hope to launch the service in the next one month," Vodafone India chief operating officer Naveen Chopra said.

4G has already been launched in Kerala and Karnataka in the recent past and Vodafone's 50% of data revenue was generated from these circles (Karnataka and Bengaluru as one circle), he said. The service was unveiled by state finance minister Amit Mitra here. Airtel has 4G in the city for quite some time.

Asked about a national 4G plan, Chopra said the telecom company was keen to roll out the latest service in more and more cities depending on regulations and harmonisation of spectrum. Chopra remained optimistic about the growth of data after 4G launch, but did not give any projections saying the 3G data traffic has expanded by 75%.

"Revenue from data services is growing and the launch of 4G services is expected to accelerate that growth even further," Chopra added.
