The meeting was chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar in attendance.
The budget session would also be advanced to ensure early allocation of funds under various schemes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said an early budget could ensure availability of funds in time for the beginning of the new fiscal.
In 2017, the government will also move away from the 92-year-old practice and present the rail and union budget as a single statement of income and expenditure. +
