Uber Technologies' senior vice president of engineering Amit Singhal has stepped down from his post after the app-based taxi service learned that he had departed from his previous job at Google because of a sexual harassment allegation, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Singhal who had been at Uber only for a month, denied the allegation on Monday and said, "Harassment is unacceptable in any setting. I certainly want everyone to know that I do not condone and have not committed such behavior. In my 20-year career, I have never been accused of anything like this before, and the decision to leave Google was my own." He was quoted as saying in the Bloomberg report.
According to it, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick had asked for Singhal's regisnation.
The development comes at a time when Uber is dealing with allegations of going easy on sexual harassment cases. A public blogpost by Susan Fowler, a former Uber software engineer, brought to light instances of propositioning by her manager, which were ignored by the human resources and was protected by the company because he was a 'high performer'.
Kalanick apologised publicly after the blogpost highlighted the many instances where the same manager had made other women employees uncomfortable. Comment on Fowler's post, Kalanick said, "What's described here is abhorrent and against everything we believe in. Anyone who behaves this way or thinks this is OK will be fired.
He also asked his Chief Human Recources Officer Liane to conduct an investigation.

2/ I've instructed our CHRO Liane to conduct an urgent investigation. There can be absolutely no place for this kind of behavior at Uber.

Founder of Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington, who is also a representative of Uber's board later said she would be working with the Uber CHRO to conduct a full independent investigation starting immediately. She also said people concerned could email her directly.
