Maruti Suzuki Alto was the top selling car in 2015, grossing the highest number of units sold in the month for eight months out of the January - November period.
The top ten list was dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, with only one spot going to Mahindra and Honda each.
Maruti's popular Alto hatch was once again the most-selling car of the year. However, Alto and Dzire switched the top ranks through the year, but the hatch emerged victorious as the best-selling car.
Here are some interesting takeaways from the top 10 list.
-- Out of top ten, six places were taken by hatchbacks from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
-- There were only two sedans on the list -- the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Honda City
-- There was only one SUV on the list
-- Maruti's Omni was the only MUV on the list, consistently clocking in huge numbers even today.
In 2015, Maruti Suzuki dominated the top four spots out of ten, in terms sales volume. This included Alto, Dzire, the Swift and WagonR.
Maruti Suzuki sold 2,49,507 units of the Alto in 2015, till November. India's largest carmaker sold the most Altos in February -- 25,673 units -- and the least in June -- 21,115 units -- this year.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the second most car sold during the year, with 2,19,248 units leaving showrooms till November.
The Dzire was followed by the Swift with sales of 1,92,376 units in the year, till November, while with 1,55,754 units sold, the WagonR came in at number 4.

Rival Hyundai Elitei20 and Grand i10 grabbed the fifth and the sixth spot in sales volume. Hyundai sold 1,19,705 units of the Elitei20 and 1,11,276 units of Grand i10 in 2015.
Meanwhile, Mahindra Bolero came in seventh. The last four spots on the top ten best-selling list were taken by Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the Omni and the Hyundai Eon.
