American electric car manufacturer Tesla is in talks with China to start manufacturing in the country, according to a TOI report. The news comes soon after it was found that Tesla sold nearly 3,000 units in the country, in the first nine months of the year..

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed plans of setting up a manufacturing plant in China, which will help reduce cost for the company significantly. However, an official announcement of the plans hasn't been made yet.

Tesla's plans of setting up a plant in India comes soon after Prime Minister's visit to the US last month. However, it is important to note that PM Modi's visit was largely centred around electric car battery packs, and getting off-grid electric power technology for India.

According to reports in the Chinese media, it may be three years before the plant goes on steam.

China has a huge pollution problem being the country with the largest population in the world and also one of the largest automobile markets in the world. It is probably no surprise then that Tesla has found takers in China.
