Telangana govt awards EPC contracts to BHEL

The Telangana government has awarded contracts for 800 MW Kothagudem project and 1,080 MW Manuguru unit to Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL).

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao agreed to give the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract on the request of top BHEL officials, including CMD B P Rao; Director (Power) Atul Sobti and Executive Director (Marketing) S Gopalakrishnan, who called on him at the Secretariat, a CM office statement said.

The Chief Minister said the execution has to be timebound and targeted.

BHEL CMD assured Rao to execute the projects of 1,080 MW (4x270) within the next 24 months and the remaining within the next three years.

The Chief Minister also directed Telangana State GENCO CMD D Prabhakar Rao to ensure generation of 6,000 MW in next three years to make the state power surplus and, if necessary, by entrusting the projects on MoU basis to BHEL.

S Narsing Rao, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, was present in the meeting.
