Tata Motors posts 10% rise in January sales driven by domestic demand

Tata Motors on Monday reported 10% rise in sales at 47,034 units in January compared to 42,595 vehicles in the same month last year.

Domestic sales of Tata Motors' commercial and passenger vehicles rose by 7% at 41,398 units during the month as against 38,634 units sold in January, 2015.

Sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market in January this year stood at 10,728 units as against 13,047 units in the same month previous year, down 18%, Tata Motors said in a statement.

As for passenger cars, the sales were 20% lower at 9,350 units in January, as compared to 11,637 units in the same period of last year.

Utility vehicle sales declined by 2% during the last month to 1,378 units, compared to the year-ago period.

In the commercial vehicles segment, the company's domestic sales stood at 30,670 units, up 20% over January 2015, the company said.

Exports during the month stood at 5,636 units as compared to 3,961 units in January 2015, up 42%.
