Senior Indian Revenue Service officer Sushil Chandra will, on Tuesday, take over as chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the policy-making body for the Income Tax department.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister had early this month approved the name of Chandra as the CBDT Chairman to replace Nair. An IIT graduate, Chandra will be in office till May next year. CBDT has six members apart from the chairman, and is responsible for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the Income Tax department.
