All major domestic airlines improved their on-time-performance (OTP) at the country's four major airports in February compared with January, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) numbers with the dna.

Budget carrier SpiceJet's OTP saw the biggest jump of 27.3 percentage points to 76.90% last month from 49.6% in January, followed by Air India's (AI) that climbed up 20.98 percentage points to 73.08% from 52.10% during the same period.

OTP of Jet and Jelite shot up 12.9 percentage points to 76.60% from 63.70%, while the market leader in terms of number of passengers carried IndiGo's was up 10.41 percentage points to 83.71% from 73.3% and no-frill airline GoAir's improved 10.53 percentage points to 76.33% from 65.8%.

Analysts said the OTP of all airlines had dipped in January because of fog – the OTP at the Delhi and Mumbai airports drop considerably.

"Airlines usually see their OTP decline in January because of the fog, which has cascading impact on other airports. SpiceJet's abnormal jump in OTP must be due to the stability of operations," said an analyst, who did not want to be named.

Air India, which has maximum flights out of the Delhi airport, had seen its OTP at these two airport slip to 49.7% (Delhi) and 46.9% (Mumbai). For SpiceJet, which was grappling with survival issues then, was down to 33.8% at Delhi airport and 39% at Bangalore airport. The troubled airline's OTP at Mumbai airport was 69% in January.

Jet and Jetlite had also seen their OTPs at Delhi airport crash to as low as 49%.

OTP figures of Tata-Singapore joint venture Vistara and Tata-AirAsia airline AirAsia India for February were not available.
