The Supreme Court has extended Sahara Chief Subrata Roy's bail till February 6. Earlier, the apex court had extended his bail till November 28. In a hearing on Monday, the SC gave him bail till February 6, and ordered him to pay Rs 600 crore to remain out of jail.
This is the fifth time that Roy's bail is being extended after he was let out of jail in May this year to fulfil the last rites of his mother who'd succumbed to a long illness.
In its last outing, the apex court had extended his bail till November 28 after it was informed that Rs 200 crore had been deposited with market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), a Hindustan Times report said. Earlier, while extending his bail, the Court had ordered the Sahara Chief to deposit Rs 200 crore with the court of go back to jail.
At the time, the SC also sought an explanation and the source for the Rs 18,000 crore that the company claimed had been paid its investors. The Supreme Court said, "is difficult to digest that so much money has been refunded in such a short span." In exchange of the information, the Supreme Court promised to close the pandora's box if the company submits proof.
