The rupee depreciated by 13 paise to 60.29 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to increased demand for the American currency from importers.

Euro's weakness against the US dollar overseas and lower opening in the domestic equity market also put pressure on the local unit, forex dealers said.

The rupee had lost 26 paise to close at 60.16 against the dollar on Thursday on fresh dollar demand from banks and importers in view of the US currency gaining overseas and weakness in local equities.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 78.67 points, or 0.35%, to trade at 22,430.40.
