Royal Enfield sales up 59% in August on year

The company exported 760 units in the month, compared to 522 in the same period last year.

Eicher Motors sold 59% more two-wheelers in August compared to the same month last year. In the month, the company sold 42,360 Royal Enfields versus 26,643 units sold in the same period last year.

In August, the company's exports also improved by 46% -- it exported 760 units compared to 522 units in the same period last year. 

Eicher Motors has been aggressively expanding. 

The company recently set up a direct distribution subsidiary for Royal Enfield in the US, its first outside India. The company soon plans to open fully branded retail stories in the US that will sell its entire product line-up, including motorcycles, riding gear and merchandise. 

It also recently entered the Indonesian market to take on the mid-sized motorcycle segment, with plans to start retail operations in the country in the next few months. Eicher Motors will also be setting up a service and after market capability for Royal Enfield in Jakarta. 

At 1115 hours, Eicher Motors' stock price was at Rs 19,016 per share, up 0.12% from previous close.
