Raghuram Rajan indicates he does not want 2nd term as RBI Governor: Report

Raghuram Rajan, Governor, Reserve Bank of India has hinted that he does not want to remain in the position of RBI governor after his tenure ends in September this year, according to IANS report.

According to leading Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, Rajan had told the central government that he would return to the United States once his term ends.

Quoting sources close to Rajan, the daily said he had plans to join an American university and pursue research on the Indian economy, according to Business Today.

Raghuram Rajan has been under attack from BJP leaders Subramanian Swamy and Nirmala Sitharaman, Swamy wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi twice in order to sack Rajan immediately because he is not doing justice to his job and not helping India's economy.

But, earlier today, it was reported that with Modi's patronage, it is likely the government will reappoint Rajan.

This report comes as a shock as Rajan himself had said earlier that he wishes to continue his term as the governor of RBI.

Apart from PM, Rajan has also found support from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who has told the PM that if the Governor is sacked it would send a wrong message around the world.
