With Infosys founders and board members engaged in a war of words over the last few days, employees are wondering whether their annual salary hikes and promotions would get affected, according to a report in The Economic Times.

Trouble has been brewing in the Infosys boardroom for sometime over CEO Vishal Sikka's 55% hike in annual compensation granted last year, a hefty severance pay to ex-CFO Rajiv Bansal, and the appointment of Union Minister Jayant Sinha's wife Punita Kumar-Sinha as an independent director in the company.

The battle a la the Tata Sons -Cyrus Mistry fiasco after it showed its now-former chairman the door, has had founder N Narayana Murthy vocalising his concerns over the departure from the company's ethos, declining corporate governance, and more.

While most, including the investors have their eyes on the boardroom drama, employees, rightfully so, only seemed to be concerned about what the fresh trouble at Infosys means for them.

According to the aforementioned ET report, employees are worried about their annual appraisal and promotions if there is a sudden change in top management. After the recent Tata Sons - Cyrus Mistry episode which dragged on for months and has seen both the parties invoking the law, ousting a chairman/ CEO if he/ she doesn't adhere to company's culture or agree with the board over a period of time, doesn't seem too unlikely or out of the ordinary.

Some said that the company may also use the trouble as an excuse to delay their performance reviews and promotions.

It quoted an unnamed employee saying, "Infosys hasn’t raised visa requests for the system engineers and senior system engineers. There is a general sense that promotions will be halted or delayed by using these governance issues and results as an excuse.”

Even senior employees close to Sikka are worried about a change in management, the report said.

However, so far, several reports in the media suggest that the board - at least for now - has Sikka's back. The CEO recently wrote to his employees asking them not to get distracted. "Let us not get distracted by media speculation that is designed to stir up gossip or rehash old rumors or speculate on the unknowns, around visas, or anything that questions our commitment to governance, integrity and values, in order to generate headlines and create, in the words of The Wire, Eardrum Buzz."

Uncertainty over the H-1B visa regime under the Donald Trump's presidency in the US and lay offs already in the fray thanks to automation, isn't making the life of the IT major's employees any easier.
