Every household of Bihar would be provided electricity connection in two years, state Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav informed the Legislative Council today.

"We will provide electricity connection to every household in the next two years," Yadav said.

The minister was replying to the debate on his department's budgetary allocation of Rs 10,905.03 crore for 2017-18 which was boycotted by BJP members in protest against the government's 'unsatisfactory' reply.

Yadav said that Bihar's tariff was two to two-and-half times less than that of states like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The members should keep in mind that the Electricity Regulatory Commission had not been revised tariff for three years, he said.

Bihar would generate five times more power from its own sources - from 525 MW to 2650 MW - by the end of March 2018 as power plants at Kanti, Barauni and Nabinagar are expected to start generation by that time, he said.

Two units of 195 MW at Kanti in Muzffarpur are expected start generation in March and April 2017 respectively while other two units of 250 MW at Barauni in Begusarai is likely to do it in November 2017, he said.

One unit of 110 MW at Barauni is also expected to start generation in May 2017 after renovation and modernisation of the old plant, the minister said.

Similarly, of the three units of 660 MW each (1980 MW) being developed by Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd in joint venture with NTPC at Nabinagar in Aurangabad, two are likely to start generation in September 2017 and March 2018 respectively, he said.
