The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the ceiling and retail prices of 52 more formulation packs in the scheduled category under the Drugs Price Control Order (DPCO), 2013.

In its notification, on Wednesday, the price regulator fixed prices of formulations based on bulk drugs which includes bleaching powder, ketamine hydrochloride, zinc sulfate, ascorbic acid, cloxacillin, gentamycin, glucose, glucose with normal saline, mannitol, paracetamol, amoxycilline with potassium clavulanate, metoprolol succinate with cilnidipine (cardiocil M), and a number of other combination drugs among others.

In one notification, NPPA, said, "In exercise of the powers, conferred by paragraph 4, 10, 11, 14 and 16 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, dated the 30th May, 2013.... hereby fixes the prices as specified herein below as ceiling prices exclusive of local tax applicable, if any in respect of the scheduled formulations specified in the said table with the strength and unit specified respectively."

The regulator asked manufacturers of these scheduled formulations to reduce the maximum retail price of the drugs, wherever the existing price exceeds the ceiling price.

For prices below the ceiling price, the manufacturers will have to maintain the existing MRP.

"All the existing manufacturers of above mentioned scheduled formulations having MRP lower than the ceiling price/retail price specified in the table plus local taxes as applicable, if any, shall continue to maintain the existing MRP," the notification said.

In case the retail price/ ceiling price of aforesaid formulation is not complied as per price notification, then the concerned manufacturer/marketing company would have to deposit overcharged amount along with the interest.
