Over Rs 10 lakh new currency seized from money exchanger in Haryana

From the Rs 10,22,030 cash seized, Rs 10 lakh was in new Rs 2,000 notes, Rs 19,500 in Rs 500 notes and the rest in small denominations.

The Haryana police has seized over Rs 10 lakh cash in new currency notes from a money exchanger in Haryana. Acting on a tip off, a team stopped a car at a check post near Shahabad Markanda bridge in Haryana late last night and recovered the cash, police said on Saturday, adding a total of Rs 10,22,030 was seized.

The occupant of the car has been identified as Amandeep, a money exchanger and resident of Khera Sendha village in Haryana, said Shahabad police station in-charge Ramesh Kumar. "Rs 10 lakh was in Rs 2,000 notes, Rs 19,500 in Rs 500 notes while the rest was in denominations of Rs 100, Rs 20 and Rs 10 notes," police said.

The Income Tax department has been informed about the seizure and it will investigate the matter, police said.
