Now cancer drugs to be available at 60-90% discount at AIIMS

Patients from other hospitals can also avail of the pharmacy's drugs at discounted rates by providing authentic prescriptions.

India's first retail facility at AIIMS, AMRIT was inaugurated by Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Sunday, which will provide drugs for cancer and cardiovascular diseases at a discount. The drugs will be sold at 60-90% discounted rates, a media report said.

Named as AMRIT- Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment, the pharmacy will have 202 drugs for the diseases at highly discounted prices. In addition, 148 cardiac implants will be also be provided and sold at 50-60% discounted rates.

Drugs like 'Docetaxel 120mg', which is used for chemotherapy cycle, will be sold with 93% rebate at Rs 888.75, when the cost of injection is Rs 13,440 for one round of therapy. Also, the Caboplatin 450 mg will be sold at Rs 1,316.25 instead of its actual price, which is Rs 2,561.57.

After scrutinising the success of the Amrit programme, the government will open more such pharmacy retail stores where the drugs will be available at reduced rates, including Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the report added.
