'There's no universal formula for developing smart cities'

"There cannot be a universal formula for developing a smart city, however, making governance citizen-friendly and cost-effective will be one of the key objectives," Rajpal Singh said.

 There cannot be a universal formula for developing a smart city as every city has its own strength in terms of heritage, geographical location and environment, and the smart city mission will keep these factors in mind while developing them in Rajasthan, state Urban Development and Housing Minister Rajpal Singh said. 

"There cannot be a universal formula for developing a smart city, however, making governance citizen-friendly and cost-effective will be one of the key objectives," he said addressing a conclave on smart city, organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Department of Local Self Government (LSG).

He said the smart city is also about inclusive growth, quality of life, happiness index, convenience of living and being green.

State Home Minister Gulab Chand Katharia expressed satisfaction over Jaipur and Udaipur making to list of first lot of 20 cities under the "Smart City" programme and asked citizens and the local bodies to take this up as a challenge and make Udaipur a top quality Smart City in India,
