The Delhi High Court has said that app-based taxi services like Ola, Uber and others, will not be allowed to charge surge pricing from August 22.

The order comes a day after the Delhi Government had said it was mulling imposing prescribed fares to the taxi aggregators. This means that they will have to adhere to the government imposed taxi fares.

On Wednesday, the Delhi government said it had prepared a policy for taxi companies like Ola, Uber, and others, which will be sent to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung for approval.

Apart from banishing surge pricing for the taxi services, the policy may also ask these taxis to ply by meter in the national capital.

The policy has been prepared to curb irregularities by the app-based cab services like Ola and Uber, a PTI report said.

It has been prepared at the request of the Delhi High Court, which said there was a need for a good and model law for regulating app-based cab services like Ola and Uber, to bring in more clarity.
