Airlines have waived all cancellations, rescheduling and other related charges for travel to and from Port Blair due to cyclonic weather conditions.
Government-owned Air India and budget carrier IndiGo on Wednesday said they have waived all cancellations, rescheduling and other related charges for travel to and from Port Blair due to cyclonic weather conditions in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Air India has decided to waive all such charges for travel to the Island between December 6 and December 9, while IndiGo would not impose them for its flights to the region for Wednesday and Thursday. "In view of the inclement weather conditions resulting in inconvenience to stranded tourists, applicable penalties of re-issuance, date change, no-show, cancellation and refund charges for travel from/to Port Blair stand waived on all tickets issued on or before December 7 for the travel period between December 6 and 9," Air India said in a statement.
Due to the cyclonic weather conditions ferry services from various islands to Port Blair have been disrupted, resulting in tourists getting stranded at these islands and missing their flights to mainland, it said.
"For December 7 and 8, IndiGo has waived all cancellation and change fees for all passengers flying to and from Port Blair who may wish to change their flights due to heavy rainfalls at Andaman and Nicobar island," the Gurgaon-based airline said in a statement.
Despite the difficult situation, there has been no disruption in IndiGo's scheduled flights so far, it said, adding, "We are constantly assessing the situation and will extend the relief to affected passengers till required.
Heavy overnight rains have disrupted normal life in the island with a flood-like situation in north and middle Andamans.
Around 1,400 tourists are stranded at Havelock and Neil islands in the Andamans due to cyclonic weather conditions and four ships have been pressed into service by the Navy today to evacuate them.
Mobile and Internet connectivity have also been snapped in many areas.
