NHPC inks agreement for Rs 14,000 cr Tawang plants

India’s premier hydropower generation company NHPC Limited has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the government of Mizoram for supply of 1,400 megawatt for a period of 35 years.

Two projects – Tawang I and Tawang II – will supply 600 mw and 800 mw respectively to Mizoram, when ready.

“PPA in respect of upcoming projects Tawang-I and Tawang-II HE Project, Arunachal Pradesh has been signed on December 29, 2016 with Power & Electricity Department, government of Mizoram for a period of 35 years from the date of commercial operation (COD) of the project,” mentioned a BSE filing.

Presently, both the projects are awaiting clearances to commence construction for the hydro-power plants.

According to May 2016 price levels, the estimated cost for Tawang Hydroelectric Project or Tawang-I is at Rs 6,131.69 crore. It will take 78 months for to be completed. For Tawang-II, the estimated cost as per September 2015 price level is at Rs 7,829.08 crore.
