The 'Make in India Week' will result in a loss in revenue of Rs 21 crore for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Authority of India (MMRDA). The week-long event has seen the Make in India centre set up at the MMDRA grounds.

The organisation will lose out on rentals for a week at its Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) plot as the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has refused to pay it.

Following the inauguration at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mumbai's BKC is set for week-long 'Make in India Week' from February 13-18. The event is conducted by MIDC, according to a letter sent by RTI activist Anil Galgali.Galgali's letter, seeking clarity on the financials has also been marked to the Prime Minister's Office and the Chief Minister's Office.

MMRDA often gives out plots and spaces for any government agency working towards progressive Maharashtra at a very nominal rate, the letter says.

Galgali demands, that these departments who lease the plots should be in the forefront to always pay these rentals to the MMRDA, which is hardly seen. This passes a wrong message, he said.

"The Government of India has gone all out in regards to the expenses in form advertising of this Make in India Week. So when the government is spending so much, why a department should be kept away only for a mere Rs 21 crore?" he asks.

Galgali said, "The said proposal has to come in the agenda of meeting held within MMRDA where the Commissioner will take a call now. But till now no such meeting is held in this regard at MMRDA and no such proposal is passed by the MMRDA."

According to Galgali, a source said that, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had instructed the MMRDA Commissioner to waiver the revenue and help MIDC.

Galgali has requested the Prime Minister to instruct the department concerned to pay Rs 21 crore to MMRDA.
