Microsoft Ventures announces next batch for its accelerator programme

Microsoft Ventures has announced its next batch of 12 technology startups for its winter batch of Accelerator Programme, that is slated for the period between July-November 2014.

The Accelerator Programme happens at Microsoft's office in Bangalore, and is aimed at providing every kind of support, from mentoring, infrastructure, software, workspace, access to customers and investors.

Tech startups also go through a rigorous programme, where they get hands-on expertise in key areas like technology architecture, product roadmap, design, business model development etc.

Ravi Narayan, director, Microsoft Ventures in India, said they have been seeing a trend of more and more diverse companies and ideas coming into the programme. "Ideas that challenge us to work harder to be able to help our startups grow inorganically."

The Accelerator Programme has so far graduated four batches comprising 51 startups since it started in August 2012.

Going ahead, Microsoft Ventures in India will also focus more on its alumni programme, to help them build stronger and deeper contacts in the industry.

According to Sudhir Sethi, founder and chairman, IDG Ventures India, the Accelerator Programme brings together high potential startups aiming to take their companies to the next level.

Over the last one year, Microsoft Ventures has also been focusing on strengthening its partnership with industry bodies which are passionate about boosting India's start-up ecosystem. TIE, NASSCOM, iSPIRT, Startup Village are some of these organizations which have also referred some of the start-ups in the current batch.

"It's great to see the leadership role Microsoft Ventures is playing to boost the Indian start up ecosystem, by coordinating with various industry bodies to create a strong entrepreneurial network," says Sanjay Shah, fellow at iSPIRT.
