German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz posted a 43% sales growth in India at 3,093 units in the second quarter of 2015.

In January-June, the company's sales grew 41% at 6,659 units compared with 4,717 units in the year-ago period.

On the sales performance, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO Eberhard Kern told PTI: "The market is still tough and there is not much of a push, but the growth that we are seeing is because of the brand pull that Mercedes Benz has."

He said the company's strategy of focusing on products, getting closer to customers with opening of new dealership and after-sales service, offering financial services and pre-owned business has paid dividends.

"We have nine models which are contributing to our volumes, six of them are locally assembled and we are in the process of getting another one assembled in India," he added.

The locally produced models are S-Class, E-Class, C-Class sedans and the GLA, GL-Class and the M-Class SUVs. The completely built imported car portfolio includes the A-Class, B-Class, CLA-Class, GLA-Class, CLS-Class, SLK-Class, E-Class Cabriolet, and a range of Guard vehicles.

"In the first six months of 2015, we sold almost as many cars as in the entire year of 2012," Kern said.

During the first quarter of 2015, Mercedes-Benz sold 3,566 units, overtaking rival Audi, which sold 3,139 units.

When asked if the company could sustain the high growth momentum in the second half of the year, he said: "We have stated earlier that we are looking to end the year with very strong double-digit growth. However, in the second half of last year, we had good volumes, so the base will be higher." Kern further said: "With some products in the pipeline for the remaining two quarters, including the AMG GT, Mercedes-Benz is all set for another year of strong growth." In the remaining months of the year, the company will open 12 more dealerships to add to its 73 dealers in 39 cities, he added.
