Meet four Indians on Forbes list of world's 100 most powerful women

These four women have proved their worth by featuring in the world's 100 most powerful women. There have been 19 new entries in the list in 2015.

The much awaited list of the 100 most powerful women in the world is out. Four Indian women have made it to the list, two of them being heads of the largest public and private sector banks in India, namely; Arundhati Bhattacharya of State Bank of India and Chanda Kochhar of ICICI Bank. The other two Indian women on the list are Biocon's Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Shobhana Bhartia of HT Media. 

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has topped the list followed by Hillary Clinton. Angela Merkel has continued to be the most powerful woman in the world for last 10 years.

Featuring in position number 30 is the Chair and Managing Director of State Bank of India, Arundhati Bhattacharya. According to reports, she was the youngest and the first female to be elected as the chair to the State Bank of India owned by the government in 2013. It is in her rule that that the bank has launched digital branches across the country. The government-owned bank also offers unique mobile banking services for the newest generation. 

Ranked number 30, Arundhati Bhattacharya controls over 16,000 branches and provides service to over 225 million customers and 2,20,000 staff members. 

The next Indian woman who followed Arundhati Bhattacharya in the list is CEO and Managing Director of ICICI Bank, Chanda Kochhar. She is ranked 35 in the top 100 list of the most powerful women in the world. 

Moving 7 position ahead from last year, Chanda Kochhar recently announced a 14% increase in profits over last year, according to Forbes. Her focus on 'mobile banking' in rural areas has been remarkable as she handles nearly $125 billion in assets in India. 

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the Founder and Chair of Biocon India features next to Chanda Kochhar in the most powerful Indian women list. She holds 85th position in the Forbes 100 most powerful women in the world. Holding a net worth of $994 million, Shaw is better known to be a self-made woman who found Biocon in 1978 which was a small industrial-enzymes company. With $460 billion revenue in 2014, now Biocon is India's largest publicly traded biopharmaceutical company, according to Forbes. 

Well known to be one of the most successful entrepreneurs in India, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has won several awards. In 2014, she had won the Chemical Heritage Foundation's Othmer Gold Medal and Germany's Keihl Institute Global Economy Prize for her achievements in the field of business.

She was ranked 81st in the year 2014 in India's Richest list. 

The fourth Indian woman to feature in the list is Shobhana Bhartia. Ranked 93, this is her debut in the list of Forbes World's 100 most powerful women. She is the Chair of HT Media and runs English daily Hindustan Times along with a Hindi daily and the popular business paper, Mint. She has gone out of the way to launch a website for job portals as well as tutoring platform Studymate to coach engineering students. 

These four women have proved their worth by featuring in the world's 100 most powerful women. There have been 19 new entries in the list in 2015.
