Maruti recalls 69,555 units of diesel Dzire, Swift and Ritz

This is second biggest recall announced by the carmaker this year. The company earlier this year had recalled 1,03,311 units of Ertiga, Swift and DZire to replace the faulty fuel filler neck

Country's biggest carmaker - Maruti Suzuki India Limited on Tuesday announced a recall of 69,555 units of diesel variants of Dzire, Swift (old models) and Ritz manufactured between March 8, 2010 and August 11, 2013, to inspect and repair the wiring harness fitment.

The company in a statement said that it will 'proactively' inspect and repair the issue. The recall includes 55,938 units of old Dzire, 12,486 units of old Swift and 1,131 units of Ritz.

"This exercise is limited to vehicles within the specified range and does not pertain to any other vehicle of the company or its exports, the company said.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the problem was noticed based on feedback monitoring and internal checks by the company. The company dealers will contact owners of all the affected vehicles. The dealer workshop technicians will inspect the wiring harness fitment condition and carry out the necessary repairs free of cost.

The users of the models can also check company's website to ascertain if their vehicle is among the above-mentioned vehicles. Customers can also get in touch with the nearest Maruti Suzuki outlet for the same.

This is the second biggest recall announced by the carmaker this year. The company earlier this year had recalled 1,03,311 units of Ertiga, Swift and DZire to replace the faulty fuel filler neck.

The industry has reported a number of recalls in the past two years, ever since the adoption of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers' (SIAM) Voluntary Recall Code in July 2012.

The new Motor Vehicle Act is expected to introduce some stringent norms for recall of vehicles.

In July, Mahindra & Mahindra announced that it would carry out preventive inspection of some parts of its Scorpio ex-variant manufactured between May 2012 and November 2013. The company, however, did not specify the number of units recalled and the exact issue with the vehicles.

Earlier this year, Hyundai Motor India in May recalled 2,437 units of Santa Fe vehicles of the 2011 model year, while, Japanese carmaker – Honda Cars India had recalled 31,226 vehicles of its entry level cars – Brio and Amaze manufactured between February 28, 2013 to January 16, 2014. Toyota Kirloskar Motor, on the other hand, recalled around 45,000 units of its multi purpose vehicle (MPV) Innova this year to rectify defect in steering column.

In one of the biggest recalls in the industry, General Motors last year recalled 1,14,000 units of its sports utility vehicle (SUV), Tavera to address the emissions and specifications issues.
