Mahindra & Mahindra (Mahindra) on Friday announced the launch its latest compact SUV, the KUV100. The SUV, short for Kool Utility vehicle (KUV) 100 is pronounced as KUV '1 double O', the carmaker has clarified.
Prices of the petrol variants start from Rs 4.42 lakh and go up to Rs 5.91 lakh for the top end model. The diesel variants start at Rs 5.22 lakh and go up to Rs 6.76 lakh.
The KUV100 will be the first Mahindra vehicle to draw power from the carmaker's new engine family viz, mFALCON.
In the company's line up, the KUV100 will be slotted under the recently launched TUV300 and XUV500. It will go up against cars such as Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 and Swift.
The KUV100 is fitted with the 1.2-litre G80 mFALCON running the petrol car and the 1.2-litre D75 mFALCON powering the diesel car.
Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra has said, "We are all set to create a new segment with the launch of the KUV100 which also marks our foray into ground up petrol engines.
"I am confident that the KUV100, like its predecessors, will become an extremely popular brand and will be cited for taking Mahindra to a whole new orbit”.
The KUV100 has been designed and engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai, and the company is planning to pitch it to the youth and first time car buyers.
"An ambitious project from the very start, the KUV100, is all set to carve its niche amongst first time car buyers with its unique propositions," Goenka said.
The KUV100 will be available in seven colours after its launch -- Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Designer Grey, and Midnight Black.
