Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while talking about the Indian Mission in UAE's e-portal, MADAD to help the diaspora in the country, announced a new scheme where the Indians residing and working in the country can now get financial help, including for fighting legal cases via the e-portal.

Modi was addressing a gathering of over 50,000 Indian expats at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.

Modi mentioned that e-portal was currently having some technical problems, which, he promised, will be solved in a month.

Here's what MADAD is, and how it works

-- MADAD is described as a "Consuler Grievances Monitoring System" by the government. MADAD, however, isn't only for those working in UAE, but for any person going abroad to work, who may have a grievance.

-- MADAD can be used for grievances about compensation, court cases, domestic help, in the event of an arrest abroad, for the transportation of mortal remains, repatriation, salary dues, and so on.

"Only grievances falling under the consular jurisdiction of concerned Indians Diplomatic Mission mentioned in the grievance, filled in by the grievant, will be entertained by the Indian Diplomatic Mission", the MADAD portal's website states.

However, MADAD cannot be used for visa, passport queries, emergency travel documents, or attestation of documents.

-- Grievances can be registered by filling out an online form. You can describe the category, give a describtion of the grievance, and attach a related file.

-- MADAD doesn't only let you put forth your queries and grievances, it gives you a grievance id, which can be used to track the progress or the 'status of your grievance'.

Your grievances can also be tracked using your passport number or email id.

-- Currently, there was no option of seeking financial help via the welfare portal. However, we expect that an option will be available soon.
