L&T Infotech has done a Flipkart, albeit on a much bigger scale. L&T Infotech has withdrawn 1,500 offer letters given out to students from various colleges, leaving them in a lurch, a News18 report says.

According to the report, these students have now gone on a fast to protest against the move made by the company.

L&T Infotech, which earlier offered jobs to as many as 1,500 students, later withdrew the offers citing poor performance. A student quoted in the report claims that the company sent an email saying that their performance was not up to the mark, so the offer was being cancelled.

Most students rely on campus placements to start paying off their education loans. However, with L&T Infotech doing a u-turn on its recruitment, most of these students will not be able to start paying their instalments. They are now being hounded by the bank, and have no fit response to give, another student quoted in the report says.

Most colleges in India don't let students sit for any more interviews once they are accepted by one company. This is to make sure everyone gets a fair change to get a job. With a standing offer from L&T Infotech, the students didn't appear for anymore interviews.

It was only last week when Flipkart came under fire for deferring the joining date for 18 students. In a blog post, the e-commerce company said that as it was undergoing organisational restructuring, the joining date has been delayed. To make up for this and to make sure students are able to pay EMIs for their loans, Flipkart has offered a Rs 1.5-lakh joining bonus on the request of the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad). The incident has prompted the college to tweak recruitment rules for companies coming for campus placement to ensure such a situation doens't arise again.
