Infra giants bid to build Mumbai Metro lines

Reliance Infrastructure, Larsen & Toubro, Simplex, NCC, Tata Projects among others have participated in bids to construct two metro lines in Mumbai.

A couple of months ago, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had floated bids for civil works of DN Nagar-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro 2B and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Mulund -Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridors.

On Friday, the officials made the list of bidders public.

"Construction work has been divided into four packages for 23.5 km long Metro 2B. Whereas, for 32 km long Metro 4, there are 5 packages," said Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson of MMRDA.

DN Nagar-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor has an estimated cost of Rs 10,986 crore and Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli Metro-4 corridor cost has been estimated at Rs 14,549 crore. The cost includes car depot, rolling stock, electrical, etc. work too.

The companies that have submitted their quotations includes Larsen 7 Toubro, Afcons Infrastructure, GHEC-RCC, NCC, JMC Projects, J Kumar, Simplex Infrastructure, Reliance Infrastructure-RdE, ITD Cementation and the joint venture of China Harbour Engineering Company-Tata Projects.

Larsen & Toubro has shown interest in one package of Metro-2B and all five packages of Metro-4. Whereas, Afcons Infrastructure is looking at one package of Metro-2B and two packages of Metro-4 corridor. NCC and JMC have applied for two packages each of Metro-2B and Metro-4 corridor.

GHEC-RCC-JV-China is interested in one package of Metro-2B. J Kumar has pitched in for two packages of Metro-2B and one package of Metro-4 corridors. Simplex Infrastructure is keen to construct two packages of Metro-2B corridor. The joint venture of Reliance-RdE is in for three packages each of Metro-2B and Metro-4 corridor.

ITD Cementation has stepped in for one package each of both the corridors. CHEC-TPL are eager to construct two packages of Metro-2B and three packages of Metro-4 corridor.

Sadbhav Engineering had placed bids for 8 of the total 9 packages, but sources informed DNA Money that it has withdrawn all its bids within 48 hours of having submitted it to MMRDA.

It will take around a month for the authorities to scrutinise the bid documents followed by shortlisting firms. Once the contracts are awarded, the ground work would commence only after the monsoon.
