Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a change in the old mindset of brain drain to brain gain in order to make the most of the huge human resource available with India.

Speaking at the inauguration of Global Exhibition of Service, he said there was a need to abandon the fear of losing manpower to countries and evolving strategies to enhance the quality of human resource in the country.

"We should not be scared of losing manpower to other countries. India's biggest strength is its human resource with 65% of our population below the age of 35 years. In coming years, India is only going to get younger. We should use this wealth to evolve our development model," he said.

For this, Modi said regional skills and talents needed to be mapped to develop centres of excellence in each states to roll out quality workforce. He said there was a need to develop soft skills among Indian workers and acquaint them with latest technology that will be beneficial for them.

"We should look for deficiencies and requirements of the other countries and work towards providing them. It will be immediately beneficial to us," he said.

Citing the example of yoga, he said vegetarianism, which was catching on around the world, should be promoted by Indian service providers.

"The world doesn't just need highly qualified people but also needs other kinds of people, and their demand will only rise. We have to expand our basket of services being offered to world," he said.

Taking a jibe at the government officials, he said IT and yoga thrived only because there was no government interference.

"Those young boys in their 20s took IT to the world. In the same way, we can give a lot to the world through the medium of music We have 1,000 sitarists; if people from around the world come and learn music from them then our musicians will not go hungry, and music learners will take India to the world," he said.

Modi said Indians needed to rid their fear of outsiders; "Some of our policies are imbedded in our insecurity that if we allow outsiders they will gobble us up. This must be stemming from the fact that we have been ruled for so many years but we have to come out of that psyche."

He said, "I don't understand that why can't we have global arbitration in our country. Why do we still go to London for it? Don't we have competent CAs and lawyers?"

The PM said such phobias were inhibitive and could hamper growth and prevent India from becoming a global power. He said India should stop routing financial services through Mauritius, Singapore and Malaysia and tap its potential within the country.

"Why should we give away our strength (in financial sector) to Mauritius, Singapore or Malaysia? We should make our law in a way that we utilise our strength for our benefit. We are working towards it and you will see in coming days. But we will also draw a boundary for it like the intellectual property right (IPR) so that we remain part of the global economy," he said.
