Flipkart, InMobi deferred or delayed the joining dates of various new recruits earlier this year.
The placement committee of the 16 Indian Institute of Technology colleges have imposed a ban on 31 companies from hiring from its campuses for one year.
Out of this, 28 of them are startups, a report in the Economic Times said.
The move was being deliberated by the All-IITs Placement committee (AIPC), after various startups deferred the placement offers of its students in the past few months, citing several issues within their organisations.
In a meeting held by the AIPC, the committee had deliberated banning about six startups from hiring from its 16 colleges for not following through on its job offers for its students.
Flipkart had deferred the joining dates of 18 students by six months, earlier this year, citing organisational restructuring that was underway in the company, it said in a note on its website.
While the list of the banned companies hasn't been made public, an earlier Economic Times report had said that Flipkart may lose its 'Day One' recruitment status at the campus placements. At the time, Flipkart had also announced an additional joining bonus of Rs 1.5 lakh for the delay.
Apart from Flipkart, even InMobi had deferred the joining dates of its new recruits from July to November 2016, stating that the new joinees will be idle in the period.
Apart from these two startups, some others have withdrawn the offers after the companies shut down, or after reevaluating the offers made.
Another Economic Times report said that "Ola was finding it difficult to take on students they had hired and were delaying the process."
Other startups, according to the report, that have withdrawn the offers, include PepperTap, and Zimply Home Shopping.
