With Flipkart deferring the joining dates for as many as 18 graduates of the Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIM-A) by six months, the premier institute is all set to revise the guidelines so that a similar incident doesn't reoccur in the future.

According to a report in the Economic Times, the college has already allowed the students to re-register for placements in case they want to reject Flipkart's offer and apply for other jobs. Apart from this, the college will also be tweaking its recruitment guidelines.

Flipkart, in a note on its website, says that it has postponed the joining dates of new campus recruits and management trainees, keeping in mind the organisational restructuring that is currently underway at the e-commerce company. The note says that even the campus program will undergo an overhaul in the process to ensure that it's in line with the new business structure.

The joining dates are delayed to make sure the "campus recruits start working towards larger company goals from Day one, Flipkart says.

To make up for the delay in taking new recruits on board, Flipkart has said it will pay a joining bonus of Rs 1.5 lakh bonus to all the students it has offered a job to.

However, this has done little to calm the temper at IIM-A, with the college now planning to rework its campus placement policy.

The ET report quoted Asha Kaul, chairperson of IIM-A's placement committee, as saying, "We want to send a strong message to recruiters that they should define their recruitment policy appropriately before they go to campuses."

However, Kaul was also quoted as saying that this is the first time that such an incident has happened with Flipkart. "Flipkart has been a trusted recruiter and we're facing such a situation for the first time," she said.

Even InMobi has deferred the joining date for recruits from Indian Institute of Technology from July to November 2016, according to a report in The Hindu said.
