Himalaya expects men's facewash market share to double to 12%

Herbal health and personal care firm Himalaya Drug Company is betting big on the male grooming segment and expects to double its market share in the men's facewash category to about 12% in the next couple of years.

"We are the market leaders in the women's facewash category and expect to grow our market share in the next couple of years in men's facewash as well to about 10-12% from the current 6-7%," Rajesh Krishnamurthy, business head of consumer products at Himalaya Drug Company, told PTI.

The company is looking at growing the men's grooming segment, where it has already launched facewashes and will subsequently launch products in other categories as well, including hair gels and creams, he added.

The facewash market in the country is currently about Rs 1,800 crore, and Himalaya has a 23% share in this category.

Of this, men's segment accounts for about Rs 275 crore and is growing at a fast clip of about 30-35%, according to industry estimates.

With the focus on men's grooming, Himalaya wants to cash in on the growth momentum, he said.

Personal care has evolved into a key business category for the company, with the segment contributing to over 40% of the company's Rs 2,000 crore turnover, followed by pharmaceuticals (35%), baby care (13%), and animal health and wellness.

The company sells products in over 35 product categories, including skincare, foot care, eye care, lip care and body care.

Himalaya has over 150 stand-alone retail stores and opens about 15-20 new stores every year, he said.

The company had earlier said it is looking at doubling its turnover to Rs 4,000 crore in the next four years, registering a compounded growth of 20-25 percent, driven by baby care and personal care products.
