Chennai based Grundfos Pump India will supply 60 AQpure, modular water treatment unit, worth 7 lakh euros to Pakistan this month.

By using ultra-filtration technology, AQpure produces potable water from raw source.

The AQpure units are ready for April delivery to Pakistan government and water utilities there, said Poul Madsen, Grundfos Group Vice President (Emerging Water Technology).

The company, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Denmark-based Grundfos, has its main assembly facility in Chennai and another unit in a special economic zone near Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. Its third assembly plant will start operations at Ahmedabad from June 1.

Talking to reporters at Grundfos Centre here, Mads Nipper, CEO of Grundfos said India is nowadays one of the company's fastest growing markets.

"Indian market holds phenomenal potential...It is a country that has long and product tradition for pump making.

We have wonderful opportunities," he said.

On the upcoming Ahmedabad facility, he said: "We will open that, take our experience from that and make our next specific plans after that. So, right now we don t have a master plan where we say where s the next and so on. In two years, we will have more opening. Is it likely to happen to more places, absolutely, but we don t have specific plans at this stage".

To a query from where the company sees growth, Nipper said there are tens of millions of old inefficient pumps in the world which should be replaced.

"Though we have sold millions of products for many, many years, trust me there are hundreds of millions of pumps that could be and should be replaced. That's one growth opportunity.

"Another thing is, I know that the Indian government has big plans to make solar water supply to many rural areas. We are the one of the two most well established companies of solar powered submersible pumps. That's a huge growth opportunity we address it right," the CEO said.

He further said Europe is not going to be major growth for Grundfos, but markets like China, India, South East Asia, "surely (there) are big growth opportunities and we still have a relatively low share of the US market, that is also a big opportunity".

When asked if he sees the company's India operations becoming a hub for newer markets, the CEO said the factory in India is one of the most competitive in the world.

"I should also be honest that the product that are sold in Germany and India, they are all from the very same basic construction, but we need to source some of the components cheaper in India in order to to sell locally.

The company is also following the development of smart cities in India "very closely".

Grundfos is a global leader in advanced pump solutions. It is also one of the world's leading pump manufacturers with an annual production of more than 16 million pump units.
