Google, the leading internet-related services and products company, has topped the Great Place To Work (GPTW) list of world’s best multinational workplaces in 2013. This ranking is part of the world’s largest annual study of workplace excellence and identifies the top 25 biggies in terms of workplace culture.

Others that made it to the big league (in descending order) include SAS Institute, Netapp, Microsoft, W L Gore & Associates, Kimberly Clark, Marriott, Diageo and National Instruments, Cisco, Autodesk, Monsanto, BBVA and American Express. These are followed by Hilti, Telefonica, Accor, Quintiles, SC Johnson, Fedex Corporation, Atento, Mars, McDonald’s, The Coca-Cola Company and Novartis.

“The companies listed on the third-annual World’s Best Multinational Workplaces list are creating workplaces dedicated to fostering trust, pride and camaraderie amongst their employees,” said China Gorman, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Their inclusion on this prestigious list demonstrates their commitment to continually improving the lives of their employees and setting innovative new standards for workplaces of the future.”

This year’s list saw 38 MNCs qualify for the World’s Best Multinational Workplaces list from some 50 countries. While companies in the information technology / software space followed by manufacturing / production sector largely dominated the list, Mexico and Brazil contributed most national companies (subsidiaries) to the global list. Headquartered in San Francisco, GPTW surveyed 7,200 companies globally. More than five million employees participated in the Trust Index survey.

MNCs qualifying for the survey included those that were selected for at least five national Great Place to Work lists, have at least 5,000 employees worldwide and count at least 40% of their global workforce outside of the company’s home country.
