General Motors India is recalling over 1,50,000 cars (Spark, Beat and Enjoy) over battery issues, a report said.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the company is recalling 1,60,000 models of the three cars manufactured between 2007 adn 2014. The company is currently writing letters to owners of affected cars informing about the issue.

The report said, "A defective wiring harness could lead to a short circuit in the car and carries a potential risk of fire. The recall is restricted only to those vehicles fitted with remote keyless entry accessory provided by component maker AutoCop. The cars would be fixed at designated outlets for free and the process would take 2 hours."

"Over 800,000 cars have been recalled in the country since 2012. This year alone has seen at least five major recalls covering over 70,000 vehicles," the report said.

This is also the biggest recall by GM in India so far.

The report said that the recall is only for the vehicles fitted with remote keyless entry accessory made by component maker AutoCop. GM is recalling the vehicles as the defective battery wiring can cause a short circuit with the potential risk of fire.

The battery wiring harness will be modified free of cost at designated centers and it will take approximately two hours for the process, according to the report.

Earlier last week, GM recalled nearly 8,00,000 SUVs in the US after rear power lift gates were found to have issues.

56 injuries have already been reported following which GM recalled SUVs in the country.
