American carmaker Ford has issued a recall for over 6,80,000 cars, mostly in North America, over faulty seat belts, according to a report by the Associated Press. The carmaker would start recalling the cars from January 16.

According to the report, over 6,80,000 Fords manufactured between 2013 and 2016, are being recalled over the issue which may lead to seat belts not holding people in the event of a crash.

The AP said, according to Ford, the heat generated by the deployment of the seat beats may lead them to snap, which could result in injuries.

According to Ford, two injuries have been reported pertaining to the issue.

Ford would be recalling 2013 - 2016 Ford Fusion, 2013 to 2015 Lincoln MKZ and 2015 and 2016 Ford Mondeo vehicles.

The Ford authorised "dealers would fix the issue by injecting insulation into the pre-tensioners to protect the cables from heat at no cost to owners."
