Post the regulatory approvals, Abu-Dhabi based Etihad Airways has announced major expansion plans between India and the United Arab Emirates along with its partner Jet Airways, in order to capture the growing demand.

Etihad Airways, the first foreign carrier to pick up 24% stake in an Indian airline, Jet Airways, said that Eithad doubled the number of flights and tripled the number of seats it offers between Abu Dhabi and the Indian cities of Mumbai and New Delhi.

The airline has also introduced wide-bodied airbus jets on both routes and the new flights will be marketed by Jet Airways as an extension of the airlines’ existing codeshare partnership, the airline said in a statement.

On the Abu Dhabi-Mumbai and Abu Dhabi – New Delhi routes, evening flights with narrow-bodied Airbus A320s have been upgraded to wide-bodied Airbus A340 and A330 jets. New Airbus A321 aircraft, seating 174 passengers, will be used on all Abu Dhabi-Chennai services, and between Abu Dhabi and Kochi from June 2014.

Etihad stated that use of Abu Dhabi - capital of the United Arab Emirates, as a global hub connecting international passengers and freight with flights to and from India will remain central to the overall expansion plans in India.
