Ease of Doing Business: Andhra, Telangana top state-wise World Bank list

The report was released by Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have topped World Bank's state-wise Ease of Doing Business list.

Commerce and Industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman released the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion and the World Bank state-wise Ease of Doing Business report on Monday. 

Both, Andhra and Telangana scored a 98.78% on the basis of 340-point business reforms agenda set by the DIPP, and their implementation by the states. The rankings are for the July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016 period. 

Gujarat came in on the second place with 98.21%; Chattisgarh 97.32%, and Madhya Pradesh with 97.01%. 

According to a report in The Hindu, "Haryana ranked sixth with 96.95% followed by Jharkhand with 96.57%; Rajasthan with 96.43%; Uttarakhand with 96.13%. Maharashtra came in on the tenth spot with 92.86%.

India's states and union territories submitted evidence to the World Bank of the implementation of 7,124 regorms. 

The national implementation average was at 48.93%, much higher than the 32% recorded last year. 

The states at the bottom of the list included, Kerala, Goa, Tripura, Assam, Puducherry, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Chandigarh, Mehalaya, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 

India's overall Ease of Doing Business rank, revealed recently by the World Bank, improved only by one place, from rank 131 to rank 130.
