The Railway Ministry is "seriously considering" linking Aadhar Card to train tickets. The move, in consideration since 2013, will be implemented to avoid fraudulent travelling, Zee Business said.

Currently, while railway tickets booking online carry the name of the passengers which makes it impossible to travel on someone else's ticket, offline or traditional tickets booked from a train station only carry the age and the sex of the passenger. This lets passengers book tickets in someone else's name and still travel by furbishing their identity details.

The decision to link Aadhar Cards to booking railway tickets is to check this fraudulent travel which is rampant in the country.

According to an alert from Zee Business, the Prime Minister's Office has given the Railway Ministry the go-ahead and has tasked them with developing a user-friendly model.

The government has been considering this move for a long time now. Initially, it was scheduled to roll it out by 2014 but so far, it seems like it is still under consideration.
