Mumbai-based Dimaz Aviation, part of Dimaz Group, one of the leading travel agents and tour operators for Russia and CIS, is looking to grow the number of Indian tourists visiting Russia this year.

About 47,500 Indians tourists travelled to Russia last year, as against 35,000 annually for the preceding five years.

“This season we will try to double the number compared to what we did last year,” said Manish Synghal, director, Dimaz Aviation.
Comparatively, the number of tourists travelling from Russia to India is way too high with around 150,000 expected this year.

To achieve its target, Dimaz is approaching big corporate houses which generally take their distributors, dealers and customers to European countries or South Asian countries for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) tourism.

It is also targeting individual customers who are looking for holiday packages.

Dimaz has been conducting various events in order to create awareness about the Russia.

“There are a lot of cities which Indians are not aware, while Europeans and the western countries like these places. We are trying to promote such places,” said Synghal.

The company recently conducted an event where Russian ministers were invited. Russia will be hosting winter olympics 2014 in Sochi and Dimaz will be promoting winter Olympics.

The company is also hoping to promote winter olympics in India on behalf of the Russian government.
“Even though Indians are not much into winter sports, but we will try to promote this,” he said.

Dimaz was one of the first companies to start chartered flights from Moscow to Delhi around 20 years ago.

It also does sea and air cargo and most of its clients are pharmaceutical companies. About 99% of cargo from Mumbai to Moscow is pharma, according to the company. Some of the other items exported from India to Russia are ayurvedic products, food supplements, tea, rice, toothpastes and fresh fruit juices.
