Three-and-a-half years after it was first unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi, DC Design has finally launched the Avanti, touted India’s first sports car at a starting price Rs 35.93 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). Prices rise based on the level of customization you opt for.
With a ground clearance of 170mm, the Avanti sits higher than regular sports cars, and that’s been done to allow it to tackle Indian roads. To give you a sense of the difference in ride heights, the Ferrari California T and Lamborghini Huracan have a ground clearance of 119mm and 135mm respectively while the Lamborghini Huracan rests on 20-inch alloys.
The Avanti is powered by a Renault-sourced 2-litre, four-cylinder engine that pumps out 250PS of power and 340Nm of torque. Mated to six-speed manual transmission, the turbocharged mill helps the two-seater sports car sprint from 0-100km/h in 6 seconds. Top speed figures are not available though it should be capable of touching 250km/h.
