Copper prices edged up by 0.14 per cent to Rs 382.45 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions, tracking a firm trend overseas amid pick-up in demand at domestic spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April edged up by 55 paise, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 382.45 per kg in a business turnover of 703 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in June traded higher by 50 paise, or 0.13 per cent to Rs 386.55 per kg in 16 lots.

Analysts said, fresh positions created by participants on the back of a firm trend overseas and uptick in demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot markets, mainly led to rise in copper prices at futures trade.

Globally, copper for delivery in three-months closed up 0.6 per cent at USD 5,808 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange in yesterday's trade.
