Coal India shares up over 4% on rise in Q4 net profit

The shares of Coal India were trading up 4% on Monday morning after the company posted a rise in its consolidated net profit in FY16 on Friday. 

The coal producer's consolidated net profit for the fiscal was up 3.9% at Rs 14,274.33 crore, while revenue increased by 5.2% to Rs 78,010.12 crore.

In the fourth quarter, the company's consolidated net profit was up marginally at Rs 4,247.93 crore compared to Rs 4,235.55 crore in the corresponding quarter. 

Production was up at 165.24 million tonne from 151.86 MT in the year-ago period.

In a filing to the BSE, the company said that the major income of CIL's standalone financials was the dividend received from subsidiaries. 

Other income (including dividend from subsidiaries) stood at Rs 14,215.17 crore in the said quarter compared to Rs 9,782.76 crore in the year-ago period, the filing added.
