Foreign direct investment (FDI) to China fell 9.2 percent in January to 80.1 billion yuan ($11.68 billion), the Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.
Last year, FDI to China increased 4.1 percent on the year to 813.22 billion yuan, while December FDI rose 5.7 percent to 81.42 billion yuan.
China has pledged to further open up its economy to foreign investors, including allowing investment into previously restricted industries.
The total amount of FDI fell behind rapidly increasing outbound investment last year, which contributed to rising capital outflows.
