The Central Railside Warehouse Company (CRWC) is all set to build five cold chain warehouses across the country. The five projects will form the first phase of CRWC’s project to set up country-wide infrastructure for proper storage and timely transportation of perishable goods like fruits and vegetables.

Vinod Asthana, MD of CRWC, said that the complex project would help minimise wastage of perishable foods. “In first phase, a warehouse each would be built in the east, north and west of India. Two more will come up in the south later.”

According to initial plan, cold chain warehouses would be functional at Dankuni in West Bengal, Ghaziabad near Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.

“They will be part of a seamless supply chain system under a unified single-stop solution for perishable items. They will be equipped with latest technology,” Asthana said.

The warehouses would be divided into multi-chamber units with different temperature zones to meet the needs of different commodities. Round-the-clock power supply would be also ensured.

CRWC is also planning to rope in refrigerated vans for inland transportation of perishable goods.
Besides, CRWC will provide a variety of services to help importers and exporters with inland logistics like inspections, export stamping, labelling services, container loading and export document preparation.
