International hospitality brand Carlson Rezidor is mulling introducing two more brands, Quorvus and Radisson Red, in India. The company plans to have around 4-5 Radisson Red properties in India by 2020.
The hotel major currently operates five brands – Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza, Country Inns and Suites by Carlson and Park Inn by Radisson – in India.

Raj Rana, chief executive officer (South Asia), Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, said, "We are also excitedly looking forward to bring two more brands to India. One is Radisson Red and the other is the luxury brand Quorvus. We have to look at Quorvus very carefully as we don't plan to open hundreds of Quorvus hotels. These are very unique properties, so it has to make sense. For Radisson Red, we would love to have 4-5 hotels by 2020."

Quorvus Collection is a new generation of luxury hotels inspired by the lifestyle and sensibilities of the contemporary global traveller. "These hotels are distinctive iconic properties that celebrate the culture of the location and recognise that luxury is not a pre-determined style but an emotionally stimulated experience. The portfolio will include historic landmark properties, contemporary residences, classic boutiques and urban retreats," Rana said. The first member hotels of Quorvus Collection are the May Fair Hotel London, the G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh, and the Symphony Style Hotel Kuwait.

Radisson Red, on the other hand, is a brand more relevant to the changing consumer behaviour, focusing on design and technologies of tomorrow. Radisson Red's construction cost per key is lower than traditional upscale and operating costs are lower due to multi-functional approach and more efficient space planning.

"We have introduced Radisson Red globally and we are evaluating its adaptation in Indian market. Indian clientele is different and we are trying to understand what could be its adaptation here so that we can roll it in India. We have just signed one property in China," Rana said.

The group is planning to add 2,500-3,000 rooms over the next three years. "We have a pipeline of 27 hotels and on an average we plan to add 7-8 or even 9 properties, if we are lucky, every year for the next three years. Of this, a sizable amount will be in mid-scale category," he said.

Rana said that its flagship hotel, Radisson Blu, is likely to be operational by end 2016 or early 2017. The property will have 275 rooms, multi-dining options, banqueting facilities spread over 8000 sq ft and about 2700 sq ft of meeting spaces. It is also developing a 211-keys Radisson property within the Essel World.

"The combination of a hotel next to a water park is a great one. That is the Disney model in the US where there are hotels with the water parks, theme parks, etc. It is a natural combination where both benefit from each other. This is a four-star property and even in these water parks there is a clientele coming which needs that kind of an accommodation," Rana further said.

The hotel group is looking at 5-7 properties in and around Mumbai. It is looking at properties in Malad and Karjat for brands such as Radisson. Rana, however, did not divulge details of these properties but confirmed one is under negotiation stage where the other deal has been signed.
