The Economic Survey for 2015-16 will be tabled in Parliament by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday.

The Economic Survey is the Finance Ministry's view on the annual economic development of the country that gives a broad idea on the macro-economic data, which will impact the budget decisions.

The survey, a flagship annual document of the Ministry of Finance, reviews the developments in the economy over the previous 12 months, which summarises the performance on major development programmes, and highlights the policy initiatives of the government and the prospects of the economy in the short to medium term.

Following the recommendations of a Parliamentary Standing Committee, the Finance Ministry has decided to go green and print lesser number of copies of the survey and budget. The documents will be made available online.

Jaitley's cancelled his meeting with the economists just two days ahead of the Budget, which had generated a lot of curiosity.

The 90-minute meeting with the economists on Saturday, ahead of the Budget presentation for 2016-17, was confirmed by Ministry spokesperson who described it as one to explain "economic analysis of macro-economic situation" after the presentation of Economic Survey.

The Economic Survey last year took the changed growth computation method forward and said that growth rate of over 8% is expected in the coming year.

Citing the change in base year made by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), growth rate at market prices for 2015-16 is expected to be between 8.1-8.5%.

Going further, the Survey further said that double-digital economic growth trajectory was now a possibility.

The survey had added that the high growth rate can be expected because of the reforms taken forward, like deregulation of diesel prices, taxing energy products, replacing cooking gas subsidy by direct transfer, etc, by the new NDA government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
